One of the primary themes of the High Holy Days is REMEMBRANCE. The liturgy
of Rosh Hashana features verses from the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) where Ad-nai remembered our ancestors:

I will always REMEMBER the covenant I made with you in the days of
your youth and establish it with you as a covenant that will last forever (Ezekial 16:60)

From this and other verses we learn the power of REMEMBRANCE and the inspiring, lasting, and supporting role being thought of, seen and heard plays in our tradition and in our lives.

The Baal Shem Tov, great teacher and mystic in 18th century Ukraine, teaches us:

Forgetfulness leads to exile, while REMEMBRANCE is the secret
of redemption

Forgetting or ignoring our origin and our covenant – who we are and what we stand for – can lead to distance/separation from each other and from Ad-nai. This is “exile” in Baal Shem Tov’s comment.

But REMEMBERANCE of our origin and our identity – sharing it, understanding it, and living it – strengthens us and brings us closer to community, to heritage, and to Ad-nai.

Israel is a large/vital symbol of our heritage and our identity. While not perfect, Israel’s remarkable achievements in just 74 years of existence despite constant challenge from across its borders prove the value of our covenant, our story, and our tradition.

During this High Holy Days season I urge you to strengthen your connection and strengthen, support, and REMEMBER Israel through Israel Bonds.

Supporting Israel through Israel Bonds is a link to the power of REMEMBRANCE, the covenant, and to the words of the Baal Shem Tov because they bring us closer to redemption, to each other, and to our tradition.
