On July 14, Israel Bonds New Jersey Women’s Division held an intimate conversation with Shira Haas, star of the Netflix series Shtisel and Unorthodox, and Best International Actress winner at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival for the Israeli drama film Asia.



The talented Tel Aviv-born thespian spoke to Israel bonds investors and supporters of her amazement and gratitude for her success particularly on the rise during the pandemic, as many tuned into her critically-acclaimed shows and took note of her impressive roles. Starting her professional career on the stage while a high school of the arts student in Israel, a casting director approached her on Facebook, and from there propelled her achievements to being the first Israeli actress to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

A granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, Shira spoke of overcoming struggles, from battling kidney cancer as a child, to career challenges such as learning Yiddish for her role in Shtisel. Passionate about her birthplace, Shira shared her love for Tel Aviv restaurants, Israeli culture, and fresh-baked challah on Shabbat. Bonds Women’s Notable Society members investing $100,000 and above annually, were treated to a VIP session with Shira prior to the main event, and learned of her upcoming projects set to film in 2022.
