AVENTURA, FL

  • The Israel Bonds reception, held April 19 at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, featured Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Limor Livnat. Minister Livnat has been a member of the Knesset for the past 20 years, and served in the second Netanyahu government as minister of communications. She also served as minister of education in the governments of Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert.

BALTIMORE, MD
  • A Baltimore community delegation traveled throughout Israel April 28-May 6.  Itinerary highlights included a tour of Google Israel and a briefing at an Air Force Command and Control Center in the north. Delegates also visited an advanced desalination plant, and rail tunnels constructed with care for the environment. In addition, the Baltimore leaders met with Deputy Knesset Speaker MK Ofir Akunis.

  • On December 13 the Women’s Division celebrated Chanukah by installing Wendy Miller as new chair and Clara Klein as deputy chair at the home of Linda and Steve Hurwitz. Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg of Beth Tfiloh Congregation presided over the installation.

     
  • The annual Women’s Division fashion show and luncheon was held November 1 with the theme Fashion and Flights of Fancy, developed by co-chairs Barbara Cooper and Barbara Hyatt. Beth Goldberg (pictured) was honored at the event, which was attended by 450 participants. Over $1.5 million in Israel bond investments were announced.
 

  • Israel Bonds President & CEO Izzy Tapoohi and Vice President for Sales Stuart Garawitz were hosted by Myra and Bill Fox – a member of the Bonds national board – at their home on August 28. In attendance were numerous leaders of the Baltimore Bonds effort, including Campaign Chair Barbara Goldberg, Richard Rynd, who has been active with Bonds from its inception, and 2013 Boca honorees Roz and Marvin Weiner. National board member Susan Weikers Balaban, a Baltimore native, was also in attendance.

BROWARD, FL

  • Barbara and Joseph Fischer were honored at the 2013 Young Israel Deerfield Beach breakfast, held February 17. The annual event is among Broward's most successful Israel Bonds activities, with this year’s breakfast totaling $500,000 in Israel bond investments, a 30 percent increase over 2012. More than 350 people attended the breakfast, which featured former Israeli government and media spokesman Dr. Ra’anan Gissin.
   

CHICAGO, IL

  • The annual Medical Division Dinner was held December 2 and honored Dr. David Sager, Dr. Richard Rabinowitz, Dr. Dan Fintel and Dr. Robin Fintel. Featured guest was Sgt. Benjamin Anthony of Our Soldiers Speak. Over 260 people attended, and the event produced more than $2 million in Israel bond investments.

  • Josh and Emily Hunegs hosted a New Leadership reception at their home August 14 featuring former NFL tight end Brent Novoselsky, who spoke of his experiences as a Jewish pro football player for the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Over 30 people, many of them leaders in Chicago Jewish and pro-Israel organizations, attended the program.

  • National board member Michael Siegal hosted the annual Israel Bonds institutional luncheon on March 21, at which attendees from major banks, insurance companies and state government heard from keynote speaker Eli Groner, Israel’s minister for economic affairs for the United States. Ohio Treasurer of State Josh Mandel, who recently completed a $42 million Israel bond investment for the state, also attended.

  • The Women’s Division hosted its first business and professional event March 21, at which attendees heard from Eli Groner, Israel’s minister for economic affairs for the United States. The inaugural event produced $161,000 in Israel bond investments.

  • On March 7, the Cleveland Women’s Division held an open board meeting at Saks Fifth Avenue, highlighted by a preview of the latest spring fashions. Women’s Division Chair Joan Wittenberg announced 2012 Women’s Division Israel bond investments approached $3 million.

  • Lorin and Alan Gottlieb hosted Cleveland Bonds leadership at their home on February 19 to hear geopolitical analysis from international affairs expert Dr. Ralph Nurnberger. The event was Alan Gottlieb’s first as new Cleveland general chairman.

  • The 42nd annual Israel Bonds and B’nai Jeshurun Congregation tribute dinner was held October 21. Honorees Susan and Jeffrey Nash, who are sailing enthusiasts, were treated to a “Nash Bash” nautical theme. Avi Jorisch, founder of Red Cell Intelligence Group, was keynote speaker. The event resulted in over $1 million in Israel bond investments.

  • The July 11 Medical Division dinner brought 330 people together to join in honoring Dr. Avroy A. Fanaroff, Dr. Alan E. Lichtin and Dr. Lawrence J. Singerman, each of whom was presented with the Israel Bonds Maimonides Award. Keynote speaker Daniel Biran, ambassador for administrative affairs at Israel’s New York consulate, provided a detailed account of Israel’s relief efforts following the devastating Haiti earthquake. The event resulted in more than $8 million in Israel bond investments.

  • On June 11, the New Leadership Division partnered with LaunchHouse, a local business incubator and start-up specialist, to feature Israeli venture capitalist and entrepreneur Jonathan Medved. Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald opened the program by discussing his recent visit to Israel. Cuyahoga County has invested $5 million in Israel bonds.







COLUMBIA, SC

  • A record crowd of 260 attended the annual Columbia Israel Bonds reception on April 25, at which Steve Anastasion and Keith Babcock were honored with the Star of David Award. National board member John Baker read a letter of congratulations from South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis, who recently completed a $15 million Israel bond investment for the state. Announced Israel bond investments at the reception totaled more $15.4 million.

  • On April 14, the Women’s Division and Hadassah co-sponsored the Columbus Hadassah donor event at the Columbus Museum of Art, featuring a docent-led tour of a special exhibit of paintings by Mark Rothko.

  • Ambassador Ido Aharoni, consul general of Israel in New York, was keynote speaker at a dessert reception held March 18 at the home of Lindsay and Joey Schottenstein. Over 40 community leaders and public officials attended, including Ohio Treasurer of State Josh Mandel, who recently completed a $42 million Israel bond investment for the state. Earlier in the day, Ambassador Aharoni and Treasurer Mandel attended the annual Israel Bonds institutional luncheon in Columbus, hosted by KeyBank.

  • On October 11, over 150 people participated in a tribute honoring Joy and Michael Gonsiorowski, featuring Israel's UN Ambassador Ron Prosor. The event was held at the Columbus Museum of Art, which exhibited an ancient Roman mosaic discovered in Lod, Israel. More than $10 million in Israel bond investments were announced.
   
   
   



DALLAS, TX
  • On April 24, the Women’s Division sponsored an evening of wine tasting with experts Dr. Mickey Fleisher and Joe Blog, who shared their vast knowledge of Israel’s kosher wines. Participants were requested to make a minimum Israel bond investment to attend.

  • A Front Row Seat: Business, Success, Family and Living Jewish was the theme of a program sponsored by the Dallas Women’s Division April 14. The program highlighted achievements of local business leaders Karen Katz, president & CEO, Neiman Marcus Group; Frannie Gardner, advisor, ARMOR Wealth Management; and Susan Colin, owner of oysongs.com. The program was moderated by Alix Strauss, award-winning author, satirist and media personality. National Women’s Division Chair Helene Herbstman was a special guest. Renee Stanley, longtime Israel Bonds advocate and community leader, chaired the program.

  • Over $9.5 million in Israel bond investments were announced at the Prime Minister’s reception hosted by Barbara and Shelly Stein on February 21. The event was attended by over 100 participants, including former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert and Israel Bonds National Campaign Chair Fred Zeidman. North Texas Chair Kenny Goldberg, National New Leadership Chair Jason Schwartz, and Southwest Regional Chair Nate Levine were also in attendance.

  • On October 23, Dallas New Leadership hosted filmmaker Maital Guttman for an exclusive screening of her film, “Mechina: A Preparation.” The film explores the lives and emotions of six Israelis before entering the army. The evening was co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Torah, MAKOM, Moishe House, The ITCH, YJAM and YJP Dallas. Danielle Rugoff, Jason Schwartz, Zev Shulkin and Laura and Ben Weinstein are New Leadership co-chairs.

  • The Metro Detroit annual fall community event took place October 16 at Temple Israel. Guest speaker Dr. Jonathan Adelman, author and editor of 12 books on international affairs, spoke on “Light at the End of the Tunnel: Israel Among the Nations." More than $600,000 in Israel bond investments were announced.

    The Women’s Division’s annual home and art tour, held September 5, visited the homes of Elyse and David Foltyn, Joanna and Jay Abramson and Anna and Yale Levin. The Levins also hosted a luncheon featuring self-styled ‘sleep ambassador’ Nancy Rosenstein, who explored “Sleep Well and Live Well” from a Jewish perspective.  Over $620,000 in Israel bonds were invested.

  • Israel Bonds President & CEO Izzy Tapoohi was hosted by the leadership of the Minnesota campaign at a luncheon held July 31 at the Oak Ridge Country Club. Tapoohi applauded the Bonds leaders for “providing Israel with millions of dollars in bond sales every year.” The event resulted in $1 million in Israel bond purchases, as well as the scheduling of new Bonds activities.

  • Martha Freedman hosted the Women’s Division fall luncheon November 14. Guests heard Amy Beth Oppenheimer discuss her acclaimed documentary, Faces of Israel. The luncheon resulted in $130,000 in Israel bond investments.
     
     
     

LIVINGSTON, NJ
  • The Women’s Division paid tribute to outgoing co-chair Sharon Halpern, who has served with Barbara Hutter since 2010. Hutter will remain as Women’s Division co-chair, together with incoming co-chair Terri Friedman. The tribute was held at the home of Bat Sheva Halpern. The event also featured a challah baking class led by Toba Grossbaum, director of Friendship Circle.

  • Over 100 people attended a New Leadership BBQ and cocktail reception hosted by Mindy and Alan Schall at their home on Wednesday, July 18 in support of the New Jersey New Leadership Cabinet.

  • Bob McBride, senior vice president at Park Strategies, LLC, was honored by Israel Bonds at the 16th Annual Long Island Golf and Tennis Classic on July 30 at Fresh Meadow Country Club. Over 100 people participated in the day, which resulted in over $4 million in Israel bond purchases. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli also attended the event, saying, “We are proud to acquire Israel bonds for the state’s portfolio”
 


LOS ANGELES, CA
  • A private dinner held May 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel honored investors who purchased a minimum of $1 million in Israel bonds. Minister of Intelligence and Strategic Affairs Yuval Steinitz was the special guest. In expressing his personal thanks to the honorees, Bonds President & CEO Izzy Tapoohi said, “To be able to convey appreciation to each of you – men and women who have invested $1 million or more in Israel bonds – is deeply gratifying.”

  • Over 200 women attended the annual Golda Meir Club luncheon on May 1, at which Camille Adar and Liebe Geft were honored for support of Israel, Israel Bonds, and other worthy organizations. Entertainer Mike Burstyn served as master of ceremonies, and David Siegel, consul general of Israel in Los Angeles, was special guest. Israel bond investments exceeded $8.5 million.

  • On February 21, the Women’s Division held its first leadership event for business and professional women. Guest speaker was National Women’s Division Chair Helene Herbstman.

MIAMI, FL
  • The annual Israel Bonds Aventura Turnberry Brunch, held December 9 at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, honored Ursula Kersh and Myrna and Robert Kopf. Attended by over 200 people, the brunch featured foreign policy analyst Dr. Ralph Nurnberger and a musical performance by the Amerhet Quartet and local religious school students. The brunch resulted in almost $1 million in Israel bond investments.

  • The Young Investor Society held its most successful event to date, a September 13 cocktail reception at FADO Irish Pub. Over 175 young professionals attended the event to mingle, network and learn about investing in Israel bonds.

MILWAUKEE, WI

  • On June 28, three generations of the Komisar family and their company, BILTRITE Furniture, were honored, marking the first time Milwaukee Israel Bonds has paid tribute to an entire family. The Komisars have invested in Israel bonds for decades, individually and through BILTRITE, and have been active in numerous causes including Jewish National Fund, Milwaukee Jewish Federation, BBYO, Camp Interlaken and ORT. Terry Katz, a member of the Israel Bonds National Women’s Division board and national chair of JNF’s ‘Women’s Campaign for Israel,’ was keynote speaker. More than $12.5 million were invested in Israel bonds.

NEW YORK, NY
  • On March 19, the Real Estate New Leadership Division sponsored an evening of networking, pool, ping- pong, foosball and cocktails at Slate in downtown Manhattan. Over 100 young professionals, representing the real estate development, brokerage, construction and banking sectors participated.

  • On March 4, New York real estate developer Billy Macklowe held a mentoring breakfast for young professionals at his company headquarters. The breakfast was part of a series of Israel Bonds mentoring events for young professionals that will be held throughout 2013.

  • The Real Estate New Leadership Division held a networking and wine tasting event December 5 at Quality House Wines and Spirits. The event also featured the opportunity to learn about Israel Bonds and its eCommerce site, which recently surpassed $21 million in online sales since its launch in fall 2011.

  • Jeffrey Levine, chairman of Douglaston Development and Levine Builders, was honored at the annual Real Estate and Construction Division luncheon November 29. The luncheon, which was postponed from its original date due to Hurricane Sandy, featured Ambassador Ido Aharoni, New York’s consul general, who spoke on Operation Pillar of Defense and the Palestinian bid for non-member state status at the UN. The luncheon was also highlighted by the presentation of the Israel Bonds Lifetime Achievement Award to Bonds registered representative Richard Burg, who helped generate millions of dollars in sales over the course of more than 33 years with the organization.

  • Israel Bonds and the Jewish Communal Fund (JCF) have announced a strategic partnership enabling individuals and families to maximize charitable giving while simultaneously strengthening Israel’s economy through investment in Israel bonds.   • The Insurance Division held its annual luncheon October 11, honoring Roger W. Crandall, chairman, president & CEO of MassMutual Financial Services, and Benjamin M. Lawsky, superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services. The honorees were presented with the Neil D. Levin Memorial Award, named in honor of the former New York state insurance commissioner killed in the September 11 attacks. $20 million in Israel bond investments were announced.
   
   
   

  • Erez Vigodman, consistently named one of Israel’s top 10 business executives, addressed a crowd of over 200 people on September 14 at 7 World Trade Center. Hosted by New York real estate giant Larry Silverstein, who owns the World Trade Center property and is overseeing the rebuilding of the complex, the evening offered an exclusive window into Israel’s business sector, which continues to generate global interest.New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli spoke and said he views Israel bonds as “a sound and secure investment that is a key part of the state’s fixed income portfolio.” New York has invested over $110 million in Israel bonds. City Comptroller John Liu also attended, noting New York City has invested over $47 million in Israel bonds.

  • New Leadership sponsored its annual Israel Bonds Ad Olam Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration April 16. The event attracted over 300 people. Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Naomi Tsur was guest speaker. Over 270 guests attended,and the brunch resulted in more than $1 million in Israel bonds investments.

  • Alan Wagner was honored October 11 at Temple Shomer Emunim, and received the Israel Bonds New Life Award from Rabbi Samuel Weinstein and Toledo Bonds Chair Paul Goldner. Financial analyst and Jerusalem Post columnist Pinchas Landau was guest speaker. Israel bond investments exceeded $2 million.

  • New Women’s Division Chairman Melanie Frishman Moreno hosted a luncheon with author Donna Rosenthal, who discussed her book, Jews of the Caribbean. The October 17 event, which saw outgoing chair Sandy Sherman pass her gavel to Ms. Moreno, also featured a Caribbean-style lunch.
  • The New Leadership Division held its second annual “Day at the Ballpark,” featuring a National League East showdown between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets at Nationals Park. Participants enjoyed a Middle Eastern buffet in a private suite while cheering on a 5-2 victory by the home team, highlighted by a triple and home run by Nats All-Star rookie Bryce Harper. Irwin Raij was event chair.
  • The 56th annual Ambassador’s Ball was held June 3 at the Grand Hyatt, under the patronage of Ambassador and Mrs. Michael Oren. A Washington Israel Bonds tradition since 1956, when the first Ball was held under the patronage of Ambassador Abba Eban, the evening attracted hundreds of members of the Jewish community, as well as 15 ambassadors representing nations from three continents. The Ball, which featured musical entertainment by Broadway performers Rachel York and Marc Kudisch, was chaired by Andrew Glick and Elliot Liss.

  • PNC Bank hosted the Israel Bonds annual corporate and institutional luncheon on March 14. Representatives of area banks, insurance companies, foundations and government heard from Matthew Levitt, senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. More than $20 million in Israel bond investments were announced.
